Good evening from Amman, Jordan. Wow, it is so surreal that we are actually HERE! We made every connection, and most importantly, all of our bags took the same trip we did. The travel was exhausting, of course, we knew it would be a long day.)or 2) 7 hours to Munich, 1 hour wait there to board another plane to Frankfurt. That was a quick 40 minute trip, but oh MY goodness the walk to our gate in Frankfurt was anything BUT easy. I was to the point of begging for a wheelchair, but there were none to be found. But, alas, we made our gate and flight and arrived in Amman just a few minutes later than expected, another 4 and 1/2 hour trip. Our guide met us in the terminal, gathered all of our passports and went to apply for our group Visa for our stay in Jordan. Randy and I collected our bags, waited for our guide to return and followed him to our bus. Our group arrived safely at our hotel for the evening, the Geneva hotel in downtown Amman., and were taken straight to dinner where a buffet full of Jordanian foods awaited us including appetizers, main course, breads and of course dessert. After dinner, finally, after 30+ hours of no sleep and travel, we crash landed on a pillow and knew nothing until 4 AM . It was like I was having a dream, I was still very tired, but I could hear something that sounded like a cross between music and singing. Maybe, perhaps it was more like chanting, but whatever word you chose, it was 4 AM it was LOUD and blaring into our room. Then it hit me, oh yeah, we're in the middle east, an Arab country, it was the morning call to prayer. It went on for what seemed like a good 10 minutes, it was actually more like 4, but it was enough to jar us out of our jet lag induced slumber long enough to realize it was not our alarm and we could go back to sleep. Sleep was not for long, however, we had a wake up call set for us by our travel guide for 5:30 AM. We had a full day of travel and exploring to do and had to get an early start. It was early, too early really, but we made it downstairs, had breakfast and loaded the bus for Petra.
As I was reflecting today on our early morning wake up call a few thoughts came to my mind. First, I am so very thankful that I don't have to be reminded to pray at certain times of the day. My Father is available to me at anytime, day or night, rain or shine, in any place in the entire world. I am so thankful to the access and privilege of prayer. I am also thankful that I live in a free country where I can dress as I please and have rights and privileges like my husband. Honestly, I'm just very thankful for my relationship with the Lord and His presence and protection over us!
